About Education

Congratulations on choosing the time-honored profession of teaching as your goal. Seward County Community College can provide you with the general education requirements and introductory educational courses you will need to transfer to the professional education program at a four-year institution. In addition, these courses will help you evaluate your decision to be involved in this demanding and rewarding profession.

Students who are interested in becoming educators need to acquire strong basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. In addition, they should be creative, organized, articulate, and flexible.

Your SCCC education department advisor will help you plan your course of study and will outline the specific requirements for completion of an associate's degree. You need to contact the Admissions Office to visit the campus and meet with an advisor at the time of your visit. The education course of study is designed to prepare the student for transfer into a university program to complete a bachelor's degree in education.

K-STEP UP: Kansas Statewide Teacher Education Pathway for Underserved and Place-bound

Funded by a Teacher Quality Partnership Grant from the United States Department of Education, K-STEP UP, an acronym for Kansas Statewide Teacher Education Pathway for Underserved and Place-bound, is a program that provides a pathway for students in Kansas City and Liberal who want to become teachers and who intend to remain in their home community. The program creates a seamless education path that starts in high school and culminates with support during the graduates' first two years in the classroom.
