- TITLE OF COURSE: CO1110 - Nail Tech
- COURSE DESCRIPTION: In this 10 credit hour course (350
clock hours) the student will receive instruction and practice, covering a
period of 350 clock hours, of continuous training for a full time
student. Upon completion, a student will have basic skills necessary to
enter the field of nail technology/nail technician.

- Required kit: Students should purchase a nail technology kit from the
Cosmetology Department.
- SCCC OUTCOMES:
- Outcome 1: Read with
comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge gained

- Outcome 2: Communicate their
ideas clearly and proficiently in writing and speaking, appropriately
adjusting content and arrangement for varying audiences, purposes, and

- GENERAL COURSE OUTCOMES: To provide the student with the
information and practical exposure to pass their state board exam and to
secure employment as a licensed nail technologist.
- COURSE COMPETENCIES: Texts/exams/quizzes will be given
upon the completion of each chapter. Worksheets are due before each
chapter exam. Students will have at least two (2) mock state board
sessions before graduation. There may be more if time allows.
Proper cosmetology procedures for each outline topic will be provided to
students on a daily basis. The student will cover the following areas:

- SCCC Instructional Outcomes will be assessed as follows:
- Instructional Outcome #1 will be assessed and measured
by class participation and writing assignments indicating comprehension of
material read.
- Instructional Outcome #2 will be assessed and measured
by daily writing assignments and a portfolio showing progress throughout
the course.
- Instructional Outcome #3 will be assessed and measured
by practical and testing.
- Instructional Outcome #4 will be
assessed and measured by utilizing appropriate technology available in the
program such as laser discs, bar coding, and computers.
