Coding and Reimbursement Specialist Program

The Coding and Reimbursement Specialist Certificate program is a 45 credit hour program that is designed for students who are seeking entry-level employment skills in the health insurance coding and reimbursement field. The program provides learning opportunities that prepare individuals to perform the essential functions of maintaining health data and information in both inpatient and outpatient healthcare settings. In addition to classroom and laboratory course work, students will participate in supervised professional experiences in health information environments. Students who successfully complete the program will be prepared to sit for the national registry examination from the American Health Information Management Association. Students passing this examination will be awarded the professional entry-level credential of CCA (Certified Coding Assistant).  

Coders work in a variety of settings including hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and insurance firms. The Coding and Reimbursement Specialist Program is offered online and follows the traditional semester schedule. Click here for the Coding and Reimbursement Specialist Curriculum.

Medical Transcription Program

The Medical Transcription Certificate is a one year certificate program that trains individuals with the skills necessary for transcribing medical reports and detailed physician-patient interactions which become a part of the permanent medical record.  Medical Transcriptionists may work in healthcare facilities or they may choose to work from home.

The Medical Transcription program is online and has open enrollment (students may enroll in the program anytime during the year). Once enrolled, students will have access to the classroom for one year. This program does not follow the traditional semester schedule. The program is 640 clock hours.
