General Information

Seward County Community College was established in Liberal, Kansas on December 29, 1967 with classes officially starting on September 2, 1969. Since beginning in 1969 with 331 students, SCCC has grown to an enrollment of over 2,100 students enrolled in over 15,000 credit hours for the Fall of 2002.

SCCC is accredited by the Kansas State Board of Regents; Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association and Secondary Schools; Kansas State Board of Nursing; National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; American Medical Association's Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care; the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology; and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

SCCC offers Associate in Science and Associate in Arts degrees, which concludes the first two years of study toward a bachelor's or higher degree; an Associate in General Studies degree; an Associate in Applied Science degree; and a Certificate of Completion in various areas of study. Both credit and non-credit courses are offered through the Business and Industry program that contribute to the workforce development of the citizens in Southwest Kansas, the Oklahoma Panhandle, and the Texas Panhandle. Various community education courses are offered each semester to meet the educational, cultural, leisure and recreational needs of the community.

An extensive program of Out Reach Courses and Concurrent Courses are also offered each semester in Liberal and the surrounding communities.

SCCC participates in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Athletic Conference with teams in men's and women's basketball and tennis, men's baseball, and women's volleyball and softball. The college's colors are GREEN & WHITE and the college nickname is the SAINTS. A wide variety of student organizations are available for students to participate in, as well as a full program of student activities and intramural activities.

SCCC operates a "Main Campus" located at 1801 North Kansas, the Epworth Allied Health Education Center at 6th and Washington, the Colvin Adult Learning Center at 10th and Kansas, and the Ulysses Outreach Center located at 111 S. Baughman in Ulysses, Kansas. Additionally, various online course options are available through "Seward OnLine" and through "EduKan," a consortium of 6 Kansas Community Colleges.

The SCCC "Main Campus" facilities consist of the Hobble Academic Building with classrooms/labs, computer labs, Learning Resource Center/Library, Academic Achievement Center, Administrative Offices, and Student Services Offices; the Shank Humanities Building with a 300-seat Theater, classrooms, music and art labs; the Student Activities Center with a 2,500-seat Gymnasium (frequently referred to as "The Green House"), Student Union, Cafeteria, Wellness Center, conference rooms, swimming pool, Sports Medicine area, and the Saints Bookstore; The Student Living Center Complex with 3 buildings providing living accommodations for 200 students; a Cosmetology Building, which also houses the Kansas Job Service; an Agricultural Education Building, and numerous athletic fields including the Brent Gould Baseball Field, a softball field, and tennis courts.

A wide array of services are available to help students become successful in coursework and in their pursuit of career and personal goals. The Student Services area provides the following functional units to enable students to be successful: Office of Financial Aid; Admissions; Student Records/Registrar; Student Activities; Student Housing; Personal and Career Counseling; Academic Advisement/Assessment Services; and Career Services.
